The new U’s head coach was announced last week and held his first press conference on Thursday, January 15, for his debut at the Kassam.
Bloomfield replaces Gary Rowett in the dugout and was most recently in charge of Luton Town.
The 41-year-old was quickly asked whether he believed he could keep Oxford in the Championship.
“Yes,” Bloomfield replied with confidence.
“I wouldn’t be here if not. I’d be back in the safety of Suffolk.
“I’m here to win. I’m here to get us safe. I’m here to build a long-term future and we can absolutely stay up.
“We’ve got some work to do, there’s no doubt about it. I’m not here with rose-tinted glasses, there’s a lot of work to do, but we will do that work and we will get ourselves safe and I’m really looking forward to undertaking that work.”
“[I] can’t wait to get out at the Kassam as a home head coach, being in the home dugout, meeting our supporters as one of us, rather than as an opposition player as has been so many times in the past.
“It’s going to be great, and I know we’re going to really attack these two home games.”
Coming in midway through the January transfer window, Bloomfield has got straight to work with the recruitment team in OX4.
“Me and Ed Waldron (head of football operations) have spoken probably more than I’ve spoken to my wife and my children this week,” the former Luton and Wycombe Wanderers boss joked.
“I want to imprint my personality and style on the squad and on the group.
“I think it’s really crucial, whether you’re chasing promotion or fighting relegation, the January window is really important to get a little bit of freshness in the building.
“I think [midfield is] an area of the pitch that may need a little bit of help. And it’s something we’re trying to do.

“There have been links with different players [and] we’re working hard behind the scenes.
“I think it’s great to be able to walk in and the club have already had lists that they’ve been working towards.
“[There have been] several meetings and lots of phone calls and I think we’ll see one or two additions to the group in the not too distant future.”
United currently lie 23rd in the Championship and face a Robins side who are sitting comfortably in 10th at the weekend.
