Oxford United are set to land the attacker this winter as they look to claw themselves out of the Championship relegation zone.
Oxford United are closing in on a deal for Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors attacker Jeon Jin-woo, according to Sky Sports.
Oxford United are poised to lure the forward to the Championship this winter as they hunt for signings under new manager Matt Bloomfield. OUFC have until the deadline on Monday 2nd February to complete any bits of incoming or outgoing business.
Jin-woo, 26, is a South Korea international with two caps under his belt and he has been on the books of Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors since joining them back in 2024. He has made 59 appearances in all competitions for his current club and has chipped in with 23 goals and seven assists.
In this latest update regarding his immediate future this month, Sky Sports claim the U’s have ‘moved ahead’ of other teams such as Belgian outfit Genk into pole position to land the player in this January transfer window. They also report that fellow second tier side West Brom were interested last summer but nothing materialised on that front in the end.
Oxford United are in the relegation zone along with Sheffield Wednesday and Norwich City after 25 fixtures. They are three points from safety behind Portsmouth in 21st.
Oxford United close in on Jeon Jin-woo deal
Oxford United will see Jin-woo as someone to boost their attacking department. If he joined OUFC, he would give them more competition and depth up top.
He would battle it out with the likes of Przemyslaw Placheta, Tyler Goodrham and Siriki Dembele, among others, for a place in their starting XI. His numbers for Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors have been good and he is a key player for the K League side.
Jin-woo started his career as a youngster with the Suwon Samsung Bluewings. He was loaned out to Gimcheon Sangmu to get some experience under his belt.
He then broke into the first-team of his former club and became a regular. The Guri-born man found the net on 13 occasions in 120 matches before heading out the exit door for a new challenge.
What now for Oxford United and Jeon Jin-woo?
Oxford United will be looking to get a deal over the line for Jin-woo as soon as possible. OUFC are in a fight for survival as need as much quality as possible in their squad.
Bloomfield has recently been picked as their replacement for Gary Rowett, who was sacked after a poor run of form. He has previously managed Colchester United, Wycombe Wanderers and Luton Town.
The U’s beat MK Dons on penalties in the FA Cup last time out after a 1-1 draw after normal time. They are back in action this weekend against Bristol City at home in the league.
