When it comes to transfer activity for the two clubs, we know it’s likely they will be targeting the same players quite often, and that’s certainly the case with regard to Tommy Doyle.
Birmingham can beat Wrexham in race for Tommy Doyle
EFL Analysis can exclusively reveal that, as of right now, Birmingham are leading the race to sign the Wolves midfielder this summer.
We understand the two promoted clubs are the main contenders for Doyle at present, but other Championship clubs are starting to show an interest.
It is thought any move for Doyle would be a permanent one, with Vitor Pereira willing to let the 23-year-old move on for good as he has no role to play at Wolves.
Thanks to information from our Chief Football Correspondent Graeme Bailey, it is understood that Wrexham are actively trying to sign Doyle, but that he is now more likely to become a Birmingham signing during this transfer window.
2024/25 was a season of ups and downs for Tommy Doyle
Despite being a prominent figure under Gary O’Neil, who described Doyle as an ‘unbelievable’ player during his time as Wolves boss, the young midfielder was pushed to the peripheries by Pereira when he took over.
Doyle made 26 appearances for Wolves in 2024/25, with one goal and one assist. However, he didn’t play a single minute of the final nine games of the season.
Having signed for £4.3m last summer, it is thought Doyle would end up being Wrexham’s record signing if he chose the Red Dragons.
