Sevilla boss Diego Alonso has shared what Arsenal did which really ‘affected’ his side in the Champions League last night.

Arsenal picked up a 2-1 win at the Ramon Sanchez-Pijzuan Stadium after brilliant goals from Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli.

Jesus created the first goal right on the stroke of half-time as Martinelli’s neat finish gave Arsenal a lead heading into the break.

The Brazil striker then doubled the Gunners’ advantage right after the break with an eye-catching finish into the top corner.

Sevilla certainly had their moments in the game and created a couple of decent openings in the first half, with Youssef En-Nesyri going close.

Nemanja Gudelj offered them a lifeline just minutes after Jesus’ effort but Arsenal put in a resilient defensive display.

And Sevilla boss Diego Alonso believes the timing of Arsenal’s goals really hurt them last night.

Speaking to the media after last night’s clash in Seville, Alonso praised Arsenal’s ‘quality’ and admitted their goals really affected his side. 

“Undoubtedly the goal affects before we go to half-time and how it comes, because the team comes focused on the attack, with us with six players inside the area of the rival team, trying to score ourselves and, in a rebound and we failed in the offensive surveillance, where we should have been a little more forceful so that that does not happen,” he said. 

“They score a goal and obviously, also with the quality of the footballers they have. In the second half it affected us, especially in the first fifteen minutes until they scored and after they scored I think the team had flight again, it freed itself, it became the team of the first half again and we generated again.” as quoted by Futbol Fantasy.

Arsenal’s goals couldn’t have come at a better time as they scored on either side of halftime. 

The Gunners did make an exceptional start to the second half too and looked likely to grab a third as they continued to create chances. 

But Sevilla hit them against the run of play from a corner and Arsenal were forced to defend their lead after the goal. 

Mikel Arteta’s men were once again way below their usual best on the night but they found a way to grind out a much-needed win.
