Canice Carroll has rejoined Oxford City for a third spell with the club.
The central defender, who left Chippenham Town, has been a firm fans’ favourite in his previous stints at the club and won promotion with the team in 2023.
A former Republic of Ireland youth international, has made more than 100 appearances for The Hoops and played a key role in the club’s rise to the National League North.
Ross Jenkins, manager of Oxford City, said: “I’m delighted to bring Canice back into the group.
“He’s a player we know very well and someone who will help the team over the next few weeks with his leadership qualities and understanding of the division.”
His career began at Oxford United’s youth academy and after breaking into the first team, Canice moved to Brentford B.
Loans in the EFL at Swindon Town and Carlisle United followed before a permanent move to Stevenage.
He also spent a short time at Queen’s Park before he moved back home to Oxford to play for Oxford City.
Carroll was part of the side that reached the National League South Play-Offs in 2021/22, scoring twice in his first season before the team’s semi-final defeat to Dorking Wanderers.
During his second season, he helped City go one better, securing promotion by beating St Albans City in the NLS Promotion Final, taking the club to the fifth tier for the first time in its history.
Another successful season in the National League followed before Carroll left The MGroup Stadium.
Injury hampered his pre-season preparations that year but he found his feet at Salisbury, where he played a big role in helping the club avoid relegation.
However, he returned to Oxford again and did the same with City, playing a significant part in turning the season around in National League North under Ross Jenkins.
After moving to Chippenham in the summer, he now returns to bolster Oxford City’s squad for the final matches of the season.
Oxford City FC said: “Carroll’s impact in OX3 has been unquestionable”, adding that his arrival “bolsters the Hoops’ ranks for the end of season run-in, and once again, he’ll be looking to make an impact.”
Commenting on his return to the club Carroll simply said: “I’m back.”
