Oxford United are reportedly exploring a move for highly-rated Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Ashley Phillips as the club continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the new Championship season.

The 20-year-old defender is regarded as one of England’s brightest young centre-backs and is expected to leave Spurs on loan again in search of regular first-team football after gaining valuable Championship experience.

Standing at 6ft 4in, Phillips is comfortable playing out from the back while also offering the physical presence needed in the Championship. His composure, aerial ability and maturity have made him an attractive option for several second-tier clubs this summer.
