Lewis Hall Goes Viral After Wanting to Hand His Man of the Match Award to His Teammate
Lewis Hall has gone viral after showing an incredibly selfless side of himself following Newcastle United’s impressive victory over Tottenham.
The Newcastle left-back produced another outstanding performance as the Magpies secured a convincing 2-0 victory away from home, but it was his reaction after the final whistle that caught the attention of supporters.
Hall was officially recognised as Newcastle’s Man of the Match after playing a major role in the victory.
However, rather than focusing on his own individual achievement, the young defender appeared more interested in making sure one of his teammates received the recognition instead.
And Newcastle fans absolutely loved it.
Hall Was Outstanding Against Tottenham
Newcastle travelled to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium looking to build on their positive start to the season.
The visitors eventually secured all three points thanks to goals from Anthony Elanga and Yoane Wissa.
But Hall was one of the standout performers throughout the contest.
The 22-year-old was exceptional defensively while also providing Newcastle with an important outlet going forward.
His performance was rewarded with the Man of the Match award, with Sofascore giving him a remarkable 9.7 rating for his display.
It was another indication of how much Hall has developed since making his move to St James’ Park permanent.
But Hall Had Someone Else In Mind
Despite receiving the individual award, Hall’s reaction afterwards was what really captured the attention of supporters.
Instead of simply celebrating his own recognition, the Newcastle defender wanted the award to go to a teammate.
His gesture immediately sparked plenty of reactions online, with fans praising him for putting the team ahead of individual glory.
Footballers are often judged by their goals, assists and individual performances, but Hall’s reaction demonstrated another quality that Newcastle supporters will undoubtedly appreciate.
He clearly saw the victory as a collective achievement rather than something that belonged to one player.
And considering the number of outstanding performances Newcastle produced on the afternoon, it is easy to understand why Hall felt another teammate deserved the award.
Hall’s Rise Continues
The performance against Tottenham was another major step in what has been an impressive rise for Hall.
The Newcastle academy product joined the club initially on loan from Chelsea before completing a permanent move to Tyneside in July 2024.
He has since established himself as an important member of the Newcastle squad and has continued to develop into one of the Premier League’s promising young full-backs.
His performances have also attracted wider attention.
Football365 recently included Hall among the Premier League’s standout players of the season so far, highlighting his strong average rating and his excellent start to the campaign.
And his form has continued to produce recognition from Newcastle supporters.
After the club’s Carabao Cup victory over Millwall earlier this month, Hall also received 64% of the supporters’ vote to be named Newcastle’s Player of the Match.
Newcastle Fans Will Love This
For Newcastle supporters, Hall’s latest gesture is another reason to be excited about the defender.
His performances on the pitch are already attracting attention, but his attitude away from the action is equally encouraging.
Rather than chasing personal praise, Hall appeared eager to share the spotlight with his teammate.
That kind of mentality can be extremely valuable inside a dressing room.
And with Newcastle continuing to build under Matthias Jaissle, having players who are willing to put the team’s success ahead of individual recognition could prove important throughout the season.
Hall may have walked away with the official Man of the Match award.
But judging by his reaction, he would probably have been just as happy seeing one of his teammates receive it instead.
Class from Lewis Hall. 👏⚫⚪
