adminOxford United have moved quickly in the January transfer window to complete the exciting signing of Jamie Donley from Tottenham Hotspur.
The young midfielder signed for the U’s on January 2 on loan with an option to buy and was the first name through the door of the winter window as Oxford look to turn their season around.
United also saw the outgoing of Louie Sibley on the same day as he joined Bradford City on loan who currently sit third in League One.
New signing Donley spent the first half of the season on loan at Stoke City but only appeared six times in total for the Potters.
He was recalled by his parent club on New Year’s Day with Oxford moving quickly to secure his services.
The 21-year-old, whose birthday it was the day after he joined, enjoyed a terrific spell on loan at Leyton Orient in League One last season, scoring eight times and managing 11 assists in his first season in senior football as the London club reached the play-off final.
Speaking to OUTV, Donley said: “I’m very hungry. I’ve had a few months of not playing football and that’s fuelled me to come here and impose myself and show everyone what I can do.

“The Oxford fans should expect me to help them score goals and create goals and be a threat in the final third.
“I’ve got an aggressive spark in me to impose myself on the game sometimes and hopefully the fans can see that.”
Head of football operations Ed Waldron told the club: “Jamie is an excellent signing for the Club and someone we’ve been tracking for some time. He was one of the standout performers in League One last season, consistently demonstrating his quality as both a scorer and a creator.
“Our aim for this window is to add players who can raise the ceiling of the group, and Jamie fits that profile perfectly.”
Donley already knows a number of the other Oxford United players. He joins fellow Spurs loanee Will Lankshear and links up with Jack Currie again with the duo together at Orient last season.
A Northern Ireland international, he also joins compatriots like Brodie Spencer and Ciaron Brown at United.
U’s departure Sibley leaves for Bradford looking for minutes and form after managing just 19 appearances and one goal in 18 months in OX4.
Elsewhere, centre back James Golding has been recalled from his loan at League Two outfit Crewe Alexandra, continuing his rehabilitation from injury with the U’s.
