Now, he has revealed in an extensive interview exactly why he opted to depart West Brom after several years of service and what attracted him to Ipswich Town.

Speaking in an extensive interview with the East Anglian Daily Times, Furlong has finally revealed the truth behind his decision to move to Ipswich Town.
Furlong featured in both the Premier League and Championship for West Brom across a six-year period but has now opted to join Ipswich Town for the upcoming campaign.
He explained: “It’s never easy leaving somewhere you’ve been for a long time and somewhere that I really liked working and playing.
“But looking at Ipswich from the outside, the ambition is insane. To see what the club wants to do is clear, and that was the main pull to come here. Since I’ve been here, it’s been nothing but the same feeling.”

Ipswich Town competed in the Premier League for the first time in 22 years when they featured in the top flight of English football last season.

Furlong is confident the club can achieve this sooner rather than later, as he said: “There’s a lot of quality in the group and lot of quality in the staff – we’re definitely equipped.
“But, as we all know, and as I’ve experienced for many years, the Championship is an extremely tough league no matter how good your squad is. Just being a good squad and having good players isn’t enough. Anything can happen along the way.
“Hopefully the Sheffield United game was the start of something, and we can put a little run together, but we can’t take anything for granted in how tough the league is going to be.
“It already feels to me like a great unit and a tight-knit group. The boys are all there for each other and enjoying each other’s company. It definitely doesn’t feel like a new patchwork squad or anything like that. It feels like a squad fully ready to go and ready to compete in the Championship.
