Celtic’s narrow 2-1 victory over Falkirk has sparked a heated reaction among supporters, with Alan Shearer finding himself at the centre of a growing debate following his alleged assessment of the match.

Although Celtic managed to secure all three points, their performance was far from convincing, giving critics plenty to discuss after the final whistle. However, comments attributed to Shearer went much further than ordinary criticism, leaving sections of the Celtic fanbase furious.

The former England and Newcastle United striker was portrayed as being extremely dismissive of Celtic’s performance, with the remarks quickly circulating among supporters and generating a strong reaction.

The criticism suggested that Celtic had been fortunate to come away with the victory and that their display was nowhere near the standard expected from the Scottish giants.

That assessment did not sit well with many Celtic supporters.

While fans were willing to accept that the performance was not perfect, they argued that the most important thing was that Celtic had ultimately found a way to win the match.

Celtic scored twice, conceded once and held on to claim a valuable three points. Despite Falkirk making life difficult for them, the result allowed Celtic to continue their positive momentum.

The debate became even more heated when former Celtic striker Chris Sutton was brought into the discussion.

Sutton’s reported response focused on the importance of results, with the argument that Celtic can certainly improve their performances while still receiving credit for doing what was required on the day.

For many supporters, that was the key issue. They accepted that Celtic could have played better but felt that completely dismissing a 2-1 victory was excessive.

The reaction also highlighted the enormous pressure surrounding Celtic. At a club where winning is considered the bare minimum, even victories can come under intense scrutiny if the performance fails to meet expectations.

Nevertheless, Celtic achieved the main objective against Falkirk.

They secured the three points, maintained their momentum and gave themselves another victory to build on. Whether the performance deserved criticism remains open to debate, but the comments attributed to Shearer have certainly added another layer of controversy.

For now, Celtic supporters appear more interested in celebrating the result than accepting claims that their victory should somehow be disregarded.

The performance may have been unconvincing at times, but when the final whistle arrived, Celtic had done enough to win 2-1.
