Wrexham have a first summer signing wrapped up but Phil Parkinson will be looking to add more quality to his squad.
Wrexham announced the signing of Ryan Hardie on Monday evening, completing a deal for the Plymouth Argyle striker.
Phil Parkinson wanted a new striker and after Wrexham targeted Hardie in January, the Scot has finally arrived at the STōK Cae Ras.
Wrexham have paid just £700,000 to sign Hardie, completing a bargain move for a proven Championship forward.
The focus will now turn to Wrexham’s next move, with Parkinson no doubt eyeing more additions in the coming weeks.
Wrexham hope to convince Tom Lawrence
April saw a fascinating rumour emerge as Wrexham were linked with a move to sign Tom Lawrence on a free transfer.
Lawrence has departed Rangers this summer, with his contract at Ibrox coming to an end after three years in Glasgow.
The 31-year-old is a proven force in the Championship and a move to Wrexham would be an emotional one.
Lawrence hails from Wrexham and could join his hometown club on a free transfer, though competition for his signature is strong.
TEAMtalk now claim that Wrexham are still hoping to convince Lawrence to make the move back to North Wales.
Wrexham are aware of the major interest in Lawrence but are trying to convince him to snub moves elsewhere.
Wrexham struggled with creativity at times in League One and Lawrence would provide some guile in the final third.
Lawrence’s injury record is a little concerning, though, and Parkinson may need to tweak his approach a little in order to accommodate the Welshman.
Lawrence is best as a number 10 or in from the left flank, so Parkinson’s usual 3-5-2 approach may need a change if a deal can be done.
Frank Lampard is Wrexham’s biggest threat in Tom Lawrence race
The report adds that Coventry City, West Bromwich Albion and even Besiktas are also keen on Lawrence.
All of those clubs are threats in the race for Lawrence’s signature, but Coventry City are especially prominent.
Sky Blues boss Frank Lampard worked with Lawrence at Derby County and the pair struck up a great bond.
Lampard hailed Lawrence as a ‘top-class’ player during their time together, as noted on Derby County’s official website.
“That’s what Tom can do, he’s a top-class player with ability that you don’t see every day. He can beat people, he has a great first touch, balance and movement,” said Lampard.
Lawrence even paid tribute to Lampard for helping him through his mother’s passing, telling BBC Sport that Lampard is always there for him on and off the pitch.
Lampard and Lawrence clearly loved working with each other, and the Daily Mail noted in 2022 that Lampard was keen to take him to Everton.
Now available again, Lawrence could reunite with Lampard at Coventry, with a move to the Sky Blues potentially just as appealing as heading home to Wrexham.
