Phil Parkinson is already making changes this summer, with veteran striker Steven Fletcher departing Wrexham on a free transfer.
It was a similar story last summer as Ben Tozer and McElhenney’s favourite player Luke Young both left the club.
Callum McFadzean was also let go last summer, but the left-back spent the entirety of the 2024-25 season without a club.
Callum McFadzean joins non-league club
McFadzean joined Wrexham in January 2022, having departed Crewe Alexandra by mutual consent.
Phil Parkinson actually signed McFadzean for Sunderland back in 2020 and decided to reunite with the former Sheffield United talent at Wrexham.
The left back played 57 games for Wrexham, adding valuable depth to Parkinson’s squad.
McFadzean played just twice in Wrexham’s League Two campaign and was unsurprisingly let go at the end of the season.
What was surprising was that McFadzean spent the 2024-25 season out of the game, remaining as a free agent throughout the campaign.
Some may have wondered if McFadzean would quietly hang up his boots at 31, but he has now found himself a new club.
Non-league side Radcliffe have confirmed the signing of McFadzean, penning a one-year deal with the option for another year.
Radcliffe finished one place above the National League North relegation zone last season but were 12 points clear of the drop.
Now looking to kick on, Radcliffe will look for McFadzean to make a big impact next season as he brings major EFL experience to their side.
Callum McFadzean on Radcliffe move
McFadzean told Radcliffe’s official website that this was actually one of the quickest deals to get done in his career.
Co-managers Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley managed to convince McFadzean into the move, with the left-back admitting that he would only have made a move for the right club.
McFadzean believes he still has plenty left in the tank and is excited to contribute for Radcliffe having spoken to former Bury teammate and ex-Radcliffe ace Nicky Adams about the move.
“It’s one of the quickest deals I’ve done in my career, I’m delighted to be here and I can’t wait to get going,” said McFadzean.
“The ambition from the gaffers and the Chairman align with what I want to do and I feel I’ve still got plenty more years in me, it had to be right for me to come into a football club that wants to achieve things, and that’s why I’m here.
“I spoke with Nicky (Adams) about coming here and he said you’ll love the club. I’m willing to give 100% in every game, with hard work and honesty and that’s what I’m all about. When I had my first chat with the gaffers, they came across exactly the same as what I am and that’s one of the main reasons why I’ve decided to sign for the club,” he added.
It took a while, but McFadzean is back in action and Wrexham fans will be wishing him the best of luck in his return to football.
