“KEEP STARTING HIM AND YOU’LL GET THE RESULT YOU WANT!” — ROY KEANE HAILS ASTON VILLA STAR AFTER BRILLIANT TOTTENHAM DISPLAY AS HIS STUNNING VERDICT LEAVES FANS TALKING
Aston Villa finally secured their first Premier League victory of the season with a dramatic 3-2 win over Tottenham, and one player in particular emerged from the game with plenty of praise coming his way.
Villa were forced to withstand a strong Tottenham start at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Zion Suzuki producing several important saves to keep Unai Emery’s side level. But Villa grew into the contest and eventually took control.
Johan Manzambi opened the scoring in first-half stoppage time before Nicolas Jackson doubled Villa’s advantage after the break. Emi Buendía then produced a superb long-range finish to make it 3-0 and seemingly put the result beyond doubt.
Tottenham responded late through Conor Gallagher and Jan Paul van Hecke, but Villa held on to claim a hugely important three points.
The performance also provided another reminder of the importance of giving certain players a sustained run in the team. After a difficult opening to the campaign, Emery made changes to his starting XI and was rewarded with a much more clinical display in front of goal.
Roy Keane’s reaction has now added another layer to the discussion surrounding Villa’s selection decisions, with the former Manchester United captain highlighting what he saw from the Villa star during the impressive Tottenham display.
The result could prove particularly valuable for Emery after Villa had collected only one point from their opening four league matches. The victory moves them onto four points and gives the squad a much-needed boost heading into the international break.
There is still plenty for Emery to work on, particularly after Villa allowed Tottenham to score twice in the closing stages.
But after finally getting their first league win, Villa can head into the break with renewed confidence — and the performance of one particular player could make it increasingly difficult for Emery to leave him out of his strongest XI.
