Azerbaijan international Mahir Emreli’s future looks to have been decided with the striker on the verge of a move to Kaiserslautern.
The forward had been linked with Derby over the summer as well as Championship rivals Hull City.
But Emreli shunned the offer of a two-year deal with the latter with his preference being to remain in Germany.
Now he has his wish with Kaiserslautern now said to be on the verge of sealing a free transfer for the 27-year-old after he left Nurnberg.
Emreli had been a striker in demand after scoring 10 goals in 24 appearances with clubs in Azerbaijan also keen.
But Kaiserslautern have now won the race for Emreli who is expected to sign a three-year contract with the Bundesliga 2 club who finished seventh last season.
Emreli started his career with Baku but left for Qarabag in 2015 when he really caught the eye. He scored 67 goals in 187 appearances and featured in the Champions League as well as the Europa League.
His senior Champions League debut came in a game against Chelsea in 2017. His form at Qarabag prompted a move to Legia Warsaw in Poland, but it was a move that did not work out. Emreli cancelled his own contract after he was attacked by hooligans while returning on a bus following a game against Wisła Płock.
Dinamo Zagreb made their move and his spell in Croatia saw him help the club qualify for the Champions League, scoring nine goals in 32 appearances.
After a loan move to Konyaspor, he then moved to Germany where he joined Nurnberg. He scored 10 goals in 24 games after joining the club last year.
