ALEX Neil praised the “tactically excellent” Jack Howland after the academy product’s goal in the 3-0 friendly win against AFC Wimbledon at Plough Lane on Tuesday.
Howland fired into the bottom corner after Femi Azeez’s opener before Mihailo Ivanovic added the third after the break.
Neil has give a number of the Lions’ young players opportunities in pre-season. Howland was at the training camp in Spain and featured in the friendlies against Northampton Town and Elche.
Neil is continuing to asses them ahead of decisions whether to involve them in his senior squad this season or send a number of them out on loan.
Neil has been impressed with Howland.
“I think Jack at the moment tactically is excellent,” Neil told NewsAtDen “He understands exactly what I’m asking for him. He’s got really good quality in tight spaces. Which is really hard to find in young players – tactically equipped and technically equipped, I think he’s got both.
“If he continues his progress that he’s on at the moment, you never know, he might get himself more game-time than what I had anticipated.
“He’s done well, he’s in the team on merit. We’ve still got a lot of lads to come back but it’s nice to see the quality and certainly the potential of some of the younger boys as well.”
