ALEX Neil thinks “very good” Leicester City have been unlucky not to pick up more points this season as Millwall gear up to host the Foxes at The Den on Saturday.
Leicester were one of the pre-season favourites for automatic promotion after dropping down from the Premier League, but have not quite hit the heights expected of them, and currently sit in ninth.
They have only lost two games this season, the most recent of which was a 2-1 loss to Hull City on Tuesday; however, they have struggled to pick up three points, with four wins and five draws so far.
Neil thinks they are better than their standings suggest.
“When I’ve watched Leicester, they’ve been very good,” Neil said after Millwall beat Stoke City 2-0 on Tuesday. “I don’t think they’ve got the results that their performances have deserved. There’s been a lot of draws in there when I’ve seen them. But in a lot of the games, I think they’ve been the better team.
“I didn’t know the results tonight, so if they’ve lost, they’ve lost. But as far as we’re concerned, it doesn’t impact us. We just need to go and try and win the game, and do as well as we can.”
Neil opted for continuity in his line-ups as the Lions beat Queens Park Rangers last Saturday and the Potters three days later, only making two changes on each occasion – all enforced by injury.
Asked if he plans to rotate his squad after they played two games in four days, Neil said: “I genuinely haven’t even thought about it yet.
“We got through the game tonight. Physically, it took loads out of the lads.
“We’ll be off tomorrow to rest and recover, and then we’ll see them on Thursday, Friday, and see who’s fit and ready, if their bodies are hanging the right way, and see who’s ready for Saturday.”
