Millwall injury update regarding 23-year-old emerges after Birmingham City win
Millwall left the player out of their squad against Birmingham City on Wednesday night as they ran out comfortable 3-0 winners.
Millwall boss Alex Neil has said Caleb Taylor has an ‘issue’ with his foot following his omission against Birmingham City.
Millwall beat the Blues 3-0 in their latest Championship outing on Wednesday night at The Den to boost their promotion hopes. Femi Azeez, Tristan Crama and Jake Cooper got their goals.
Taylor, 23, was left out by the Lions but his teammates managed to keep a useful clean sheet without him. It remains to be seen at this stage when he will be back out on the pitch for the London outfit.
In this latest update regarding his condition, Neil has said, as per a report by the Southwark News: “He’s just got an issue with his foot, and at the moment, he’s feeling a bit of pain, so we’re basically working off his pain threshold. What we don’t want to do is make it worse. But we’re hopeful it’s not going to be too long, and we can try and get him back, because that makes us stronger across the pitch.”
Millwall have risen back up to 3rd in the league behind Coventry City and Middlesbrough after their victory over Birmingham City. They are in the play-offs with Ipswich Town, Hull City and Wrexham.
Millwall injury latest regarding defender Caleb Taylor
Millwall need to assess Taylor over the coming days. They will hope to have him back available as soon as possible.
The Lions won’t want to take any risks with him though. They will only play him if he is fully fit and ready for action.
Taylor was snapped up by his current club in August last year and he penned a long-term deal. He has since become an important asset for Neil.
The Burnley-born man has made 24 appearances in all competitions this season, 22 of which have come in the league. He has chipped in with three goals and two assists from the back.
He rose up through the academy at West Brom and went on to play 12 matches for the Baggies’ first-team. They also loaned him out away from The Hawthorns to Cheltenham Town, Bolton Wanderers and Wycombe Wanderers in League One to get some experience.
What now for Millwall and Caleb Taylor?
Millwall will make checks on Taylor to determine when he will return. They did well without him against Birmingham City so they don’t need to rush anything.
The Lions will be pleased to have bounced back from their defeat to Portsmouth in style against the Blues. Neil will be satisfied by the response of his players.
They are back in action this weekend with an away trip to Deepdale to play Preston North End. Their upcoming opponents drew 1-1 against Swansea City on their travels last time out.
Neil’s men then head to East Yorkshire next Saturday to play promotion rivals Hull City. The Tigers beat Derby County 4-2 in their last outing to return to winning ways.
