Newcastle United have Tonali replacement lined up – Club getting ready for sale
Newcastle United are set to lose Sandro Tonali soon and they might have already identified a replacement in Nicolo Fagioli.

In the last few weeks, Sport Witness have covered Tottenham’s interest in the Fiorentina star. They were considering a formal offer for the midfielder, who joined La Viola on a permanent basis in 2025 after a six-month loan from Juventus.
But Spurs moved to signing Tonali instead, with an announcement on the way.
La Viola panicking
Quotidiano Sportivo believe a classic case of the transfer window domino effect can take place this summer. The outlet are confident Tonali will end up at Tottenham, who are now discussing an agreement with Newcastle United.
It is believed the Magpies will target Fagioli as his replacement. Fiorentina are monitoring this possibility closely and know that Eddie Howe’s side have enough money to tempt them.
Sporting director Fabio Paratici ideally sees the midfielder as an unsellable entity in the squad. Regardless, he has a price on his head and the Tyneside club can meet that this summer.
This is causing Fiorentina to consider replacements. Sassuolo’s Kristian Thorstvedt and Juventus’ Fabio Miretti are at the top of the shortlist.
For now, Fagioli is an invaluable part of their project but when Tonali seals a move to London, that can change.
Our take: Interest in Fagioli makes sense
Due to Italian market dynamics, Fagioli is unlikely to cost more than €40m. This will hand Fiorentina capital gains and the player will earn a well-deserved move to England.
The 25-year-old boasts technical ability that will help Newcastle United dictate the tempo of games. He has also shown an ability to play further forward, which is an added bonus and mirrors Tonali’s skillset.
Not signing him now could be a missed opportunity for the Magpies. If he has another good season in Florence, more big clubs will come calling, which will make a move in 2027 much more difficult.
