Paul Merson Questions West Ham Star After Underwhelming Rangers Performance
Paul Merson has reportedly aimed criticism at one of West Ham United’s senior players following the club’s goalless pre-season draw against Rangers, suggesting the player has yet to justify the club’s faith in him.
The Hammers were held to a 0-0 draw at Ibrox in a competitive friendly that saw Rangers enjoy the brighter first half before West Ham improved after the interval. Neither side managed to find a breakthrough despite creating several opportunities.
Merson was said to be unimpressed by the display of the West Ham player, arguing that the performance highlighted concerns over his consistency and value to the team. According to the former Arsenal midfielder, the player failed to influence the game in key moments and looked short of the standards expected ahead of the new Championship campaign.
The pundit reportedly suggested that West Ham’s decision to rely on the player could ultimately prove to be a costly mistake if similar displays continue once the competitive season begins.
