Out of work Sean Dyche has revealed his return to management will all come down to “timing” amid links with the Rangers hot seat.
Ibrox icon Ally McCoist has been among those to discuss the former Everton and Burnley boss as a candidate should under-fire Russell Martin be shown the door.
It has been a disappointing campaign for Rangers with the club sitting in eighth spot in the table – despite securing their first Premiership win of the season against Livingston on Sunday.
Martin has five wins from his first 15 games in charge and has faced angry fan protests during a lacklustre start to the campaign.
And despite being named as one of the frontrunners to become the next Light Blues’ boss, Dyche admits he is no rush to decide his future.
Speaking to the ‘Call Yourself a Fan’ podcast, he said: “You know, it’s a strange thing football management.
“The job sort of comes and gets you. You don’t just ring clubs and say, ‘any danger?’
“If the timing is right and they want me to come and do it and interview and see if we get it.
“I’m alright at the minute, I’m quite enjoying watching what’s going on rather than being immersed in it.”
Chairman Andrew Cavenagh – who owns the Glasgow giants alongside 49ers Enterprises – has shown support for Martin so far despite fury from the Ibrox diehards.
And former Manchester United scout Mick Brown admits he is surprised the owners have stuck with the boss this long.
He told Football Insider: “Martin’s job is no more safe now than it was last week, For Rangers, going to Livingston and having to rely on a stoppage-time winner tells you exactly the state they’re in at the moment.
“That should be a game they looked at as being relatively comfortable, but they end up scrapping to win it late on, so even though yes they got all three points and ultimately that’s what matters, it’s not going to do much to ease their concerns.
“The fans aren’t happy, and that might be the most important part of it all, because it seems to me like it isn’t just sections of them any more, it’s the majority.
“Calls and chants for him to be sacked from the crowd do not bode well, and to be honest, I’m surprised he’s been backed for this long.
“Rangers have, or should have, high standards. They have to be challenging for silverware, not scrapping away to get a win against Livingston. That’s what they’ve always expected.”
