BREAKING: Ipswich Town Agree Multi-Million Pound Deal for 6ft 9in Giant After Personal Terms Reached

Ipswich Town have agreed a fee for towering Dutch star Kjell Scherpen, and are closing in on making him their sixth new signing of the summer.

The Blues have been in talks with Royale Union Saint-Gilloise for the stopper, with reports in Holland now claiming that a fee has been agreed.

We understand Town will pay €10m (£8.5m) as an initial fee, with a potential €3m (£2.5m) in add-ons.

The 6ft 9ins Scherpen, who did not feature for his side in a friendly with Lille over the weekend, will now have a medical at Town ahead of signing a four-year deal.

We understand he’ll have his medical tomorrow.

He’ll become the second Dutch keeper to arrive at Town in a matter of days, with Kayne van Oevelen signing for £3.4m last week.

It is expected that Scherpen will come in as Town’s new number one, with Christian Walton currently injured and possibly set to miss the start of the season.

Reports suggest that Van Oevelen may go out on loan, with journalist Alan Nixon claiming that Championship sides Middlesbrough, Wrexham, Millwall and Bolton are potential destinations.

Scherpen, who kept 21 clean sheets in 43 games for USG last season, started his career at FC Emmen.

He then spent two years at Ajax, before a £4.2m move to Premier League Brighton, where he only played once in three years.

He went out on loan to Oostende, Vitesse and Sturm Graz while with the Seagulls, before making a permanent move to their partner club USG last summer. 

Scherpen will be Town’s sixth new signing of the summer. He follows striker Emersonn (Toulouse, £26m), goalkeeper Kayne van Oevelen (FC Volendam, £3.4m), winger Abdul Fatawu (Leicester, £20m + £3m add-ons), centre-back Issa Diop (Fulham, £8.5m) and forward Daizen Maeda (£8m + £2m add-ons).
