QPR are sat inside the Championship play-offs right now after their impressive start to the new Championship season.
QPR’s form over recent weeks has been ‘incredibly impressive’, says EFL expert George Elek.
QPR are unbeaten in their last six Championship outings since their 7-1 defeat at Coventry City back in August. They have risen into the play-offs and are currently sat inside the top six along with Leicester City, Stoke City and Preston North End.
The Hoops won 2-1 away at Bristol City in their last game before the international break. Attackers Richard Kone and Paul Smyth got their goals against the Robins at Ashton Gate to help their side secure an eye-catching three points.
Elek, who is from the Not The Top 20 Podcast, has said on the Benjamin Bloom YouTube channel: “I think the way QPR have bounced back from their humbling defeat against Coventry has been incredibly impressive, especially for a manager in Julien Stephan who hasn’t managed in the league before. He was going to come under immense pressure early on after a defeat like that.
“The signing of Richard Kone has been inspired. I’m still kind of struggling to understand why they were able to pick him up for a smaller fee that was being touted in January and why other clubs weren’t in for him.”
QPR in eye-catching form
QPR turned to Julien Stephan as their head coach over the summer. The Frenchman was picked as their replacement for Marti Cifuentes, who has since linked up with fellow second tier side Leicester City.
The Hoops were busy on the recruitment front in the last window. They delved into the market to sign the likes of Richard Kone, Kwame Poku and Amadou Mbengue, among others, to bolster their ranks.
QPR added more competition and depth to their ranks and now have more options off the bench which is coming in handy. They have the opportunity to bring in some more new faces in January if needed. The London outfit will also get the chance to let some players head out the exit door as well to free up space and funds.
What now for QPR?
QPR will be looking to keep their momentum going against Millwall this weekend. Their upcoming opponents are only two places below them in the league.
The Hoops are proving to be a tough nut to crack right now. They have managed to tighten up their backline since their battering by Coventry City.
As Elek alluded to, Kone has turned out to be a decent signing for the R’s. They snapped him up from Wycombe Wanderers to add more firepower to their attacking department and he has since adapted well to the step up a division.
The 22-year-old has scored four goals in eight league matches so far and will be eager to add to his tally against the Lions on Saturday. He found the net on 21 occasions in all competitions last term for the Chairboys.
