John Eustace issues Derby County verdict and pinpoints what was ‘excellent’ in Millwall draw

Latest Derby County news from DerbyshireLive brings you what the Rams head coach had to say after the 1-1 draw at Pride Park

John Eustace praised Derby County’s character as they came from behind to snatch a point against Millwall at Pride Park.
‌
Derby had trailed with nine minutes remaining when Matt Clarke’s own goal threatened to make it three defeats on the spin.

‌
But with two minutes remaining, Derby were level when Jake Cooper headed into his own net from a corner.

Derby pushed for a late winner and could have snatched one when substitute Rhian Brewster went close from distance.

After the 3-1 defeat to Leicester at the weekend, head coach Eustace said he was pleased with the way Derby responded against Alex Neil’s promotion-chasers.

“I am really proud of the group and their effort. I thought it was a real battle,” he said.

“Both teams were very committed, and we limited a really good team to next to nothing, really.

“In the second half, I felt the game opened up a little bit. We showed some good glimpses of quality, but just didn’t make the most of it in the final third.

“The most pleasing thing for me is on the back of two defeats when you go a goal down in the manner we did tonight, with an own goal, the way the group pulled together and equalised was really pleasing.

I thought the impact of the subs was excellent, and we could have maybe nicked it in the end. But the most important thing was we showed great character.

“The one time we probably did this season was on Saturday in that first half against Leicester.

“But the lads have done a lot of work in the last couple of days on what they can do better and what we can do better. I thought that came out there in the last 10 minutes.”
