Now, reports state an eye-catching swoop for Thierno Ballo is on the cards.
Writing on X, Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph has said that Millwall are closing in on an agreement to sign Austrian international Ballo from Wolfsberger AC, who he plays for in his native.
A deal between the Lions and WAC will be an initial loan with an option to make the move permanent. As a deal nears, the expectation is that Ballo will now undergo a medical before his move to South London is formalised.
Who is Millwall target Thierno Ballo?
Though born in the Ivory Coast, Ballo has spent his entire career in Austria, coming through the youth ranks on those shores and eventually declaring as an international for the nation.
He has bounced between a number of academies but actually had a spell at Chelsea from 2018 to 2022, returning to Austria on loan with Rapid Vienna in 2021 before a permanent Wolfsberger AC switch.
There, the Millwall target has become a star player. A diminutive attacker, Ballo has mainly played as a striker this season but has played his best football on the left-hand side as a winger.
Ballo can also play on the right or as an attacking midfielder, so he’ll bring great versatility to Neil’s attack.
Another eye-catching overseas addition at The Den
Overseas recruitment has had fruit to bear for Millwall in recent seasons and with a move for Ballo, they could be landing another impressive player.
Casper De Norre has been a big hit in midfield while it is hoped Camiel Neghli can kick on in his first full campaign at The Den.
Youngster Derek Mazou-Sacko could be one to watch, but there’s no doubting that Mihailo Ivanovic is the biggest success story. He’s not short of deadline day admirers himself either.
