Coventry City Confirm First Summer Signing: Defender Miguel Ángel Brau Joins from Granada
Coventry City have officially announced their first signing of the summer transfer window, securing the services of Spanish defender Miguel Ángel Brau. The 23-year-old full-back will make the move from Granada CF and join the Sky Blues on a four-year contract, which begins on July 1, subject to international clearance and the successful acquisition of a UK work visa.
The addition of Brau marks a key early move in Coventry’s summer recruitment strategy as the club looks to strengthen its squad ahead of the upcoming campaign. His arrival follows the expiration of his contract with Granada, allowing him to make the switch to English football as a free agent.
Speaking about his move to the West Midlands, Brau expressed his excitement and gratitude:

Brau’s football journey began at EF Torre Pacheco, a well-respected academy in Spain, where he developed the fundamentals of his game. In 2019, he earned a move to Granada’s youth setup and progressed through the ranks steadily. He made his senior debut for Granada B at just 18 years old, showcasing his potential as a dynamic and dependable full-back.
Over the next few seasons, Brau accumulated 33 appearances for Granada B, catching the eye with his strong defensive performances and ability to support the attack. In the 2022/23 season, he was loaned out to CF Talavera in the Primera Federación (Spanish third tier), where he gained valuable first-team experience. During his loan spell, he featured in 31 matches and contributed two goals—an impressive return for a defender.
Following his development stint at Talavera, Brau returned to Granada and earned his senior debut in Spain’s top flight, La Liga, making his first-team bow against Girona. Last season, he continued to impress, playing a vital role in Granada’s push for promotion from La Liga 2.
He made 28 appearances in all competitions and found the net twice, underlining his growing influence on the pitch. Despite a strong campaign, Granada narrowly missed out on a spot in the promotion play-offs.
Known for his pace, energy, and defensive awareness, Brau is expected to bring a fresh dimension to Coventry City’s back line. His versatility—capable of playing as a traditional full-back or in a more advanced wing-back role—adds depth and flexibility to manager Mark Robins’ tactical options.
Brau becomes the first new face at the Coventry Building Society Arena ahead of what promises to be an exciting new season. Fans will be eager to see how the young Spaniard adapts to the physicality and intensity of the English game as he looks to make a strong impression in the Sky Bet Championship.
