Sunderland find out Newcastle United derby date as 2025-26 Premier League fixtures released

Sunderland are back in the top flight after seven years away and have their 2025-26 Premier League fixtures has been released

Sunderland will face Newcastle United on December 13th 2025 at the Stadium of Light in the first instalment of the Tyne-Wear derby before travelling to St. James’ Park for the reverse fixture on March 21st 2026.

It’s the first time the two sides have met in league action since the 2015-16 campaign where the Black Cats ran out 3-0 winners on Wearside before a 1-1 draw on the banks of the River Tyne. The two sides did play as recent as January 2024 in the FA Cup where Eddie Howe’s side ran out 3-0 winners but much has changed since then.

Regis Le Bris’ side will kick start their 2025-26 Premier League campaign on home soil against West Ham United after ending their seven year absence from the top flight by winning the Championship play-off final last season.

The Black Cats defeated Sheffield United 2-1 at Wembley to book their place in next season’s Premier League and the Stadium of Light will welcome back top flight action on the opening game of the season on August 16.

The Wearsiders then travel to Turf Moor to face fellow newly promoted side Burnley on August 23, before a home clash with Brentford on August 30th rounds off the opening month of the season.

December is a tricky month for the Black Cats with games against Liverpool away (Dec 3), Man City away (Dec 6), Newcastle at home (Dec 13), Brighton away (Dec 20), Leeds United at home (Dec 27) followed by Man City at home (Dec 30).

The Black Cats take on Tottenham Hotspur away in their first game of 2026 on January 3rd. Sunderland host Chelsea at the Stadium of Light on May 24th on the final day of the season.
