Alex Palmer believes that Ipswich Town did well to take a point from a tough trip to Bristol City, but highlighted clear areas for his side to improve.
The Blues fell behind against the run of play to Rob Atkinson’s header from a corner, but Jack Clarke replied from the spot shortly after the restart when Chuba Akpom was fouled inside the box.
Both teams had chances to win the match, but it ended level at Ashton Gate.
“It was a tough test, I think it was always going to be,” the goalkeeper said.
“They are a team that are well organised and they have got good players. It was definitely mentioned how tough a game it was.
“We probably haven’t worked the goalkeeper enough tonight. I felt like we played pretty well and kept the ball in their half, but we struggled to really create those clear chances and to get the win.
“Every game in the Championship is tough. Everybody wants to come and beat us, everyone wants to make it hard for us. We know that.
“That’s why we’ve got to be better on the ball sometimes and be more patient, try and drag people out of position and stuff.
“We limited them as well. Like I said, they are a good team with good players. There are plenty of positives in there for us.”
Although it was a frustrating night for Ipswich, there was a clear improvement on their performance level from back in August, and they head into October expecting to kick on once again.
“The performances are getting there,” Palmer argued. “Obviously we want to try and replicate our home form that we’ve found and try to come to each and every game – we try to win, that’s what we try and do.
“You can see that we’re not playing for a point. Every game, we want to win and to get those three points, because we know how important it is.”
Crucially, this was a rotated Town team. Six changes were made to the side that beat Portsmouth 2-1 at Portman Road on Saturday, with Marcelino Nunez and Ivan Azon making their full debuts for the club.
“That highlights how good the squad is, that players can come in and rotate,” Palmer explained. “It’s a tough league with lots of games, especially in a three-game week where changes are going to have to be made.
“Special mention to the boys making their debuts, some of them that played really, really well.”
