Stockport County head to Prenton Park this weekend to play Tranmere Rovers in the first round of the FA Cup.
Stockport County are sat top of the League One table as they eye promotion to the Championship. The Hatters have made a strong start to the new season.
Dave Challinor’s side lost in the play-offs in the last campaign to Leyton Orient at the semi-finals stage. They are looking to go up automatically this time around.
The North West outfit won 3-0 away at Port Vale in their last league outing. Nathan Lowe, Kyle Wootton and Jack Diamond got their goals against the Valiants at Vale Park.
Tranmere Rovers are positioned in 17th place in League Two. TRFC drew 1-1 against Accrington Stanley on their travels on Tuesday with Charlie Whitaker on the scoresheet.
Andy Crosby was appointed as their head coach back in May. He was was picked as their permanent replacement for Nigel Adkins.
The Whites delved into the market over the summer to bring in the likes of Richie Smallwood, Nathan Smith and Patrick Brough, among others, to bolster their ranks. They also cut ties with players including Regan Hendry, Tom Davies and Josh Hawkes.

“Tranmere Rovers have home advantage for this one but will need to be at their best to get through to the next round. TRFC have been inconsistent in the league so far.
“The Whites have drawn seven of their first 14 matches in League Two and need to turn more of those draws into wins. They have conceded too many goals and need to tighten things up at the back.
“Stockport County should be too strong on Saturday if they turn up. The league is the priority for the Hatters though.
“Dave Challinor could look to make some changes to freshen up his side. The visitors should have enough to win in the end though regardless of what team they put out.”

“Stockport County are flying high at the top of League One and have the squad depth to rotate for this trip to Tranmere Rovers if they wish.
“Draws have been a regularity for Rovers, as have goals. They’ve shown instances where they can be really clinical in front of goal, and if the County backline is changed, they might be able to capitalise.
“I think this sets up to be an intriguing FA Cup clash, but it is hard to look past Stockport County at the moment. I reckon we get an entertaining game, but one where the favourites prevail.”
